Weapons-stash teenager detained

Teenager Michael Piggin, who kept a stash of weapons in his home but denied he was planning a repeat of the Columbine school massacre, has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Piggin, 18, admitted possessing petrol bombs and component parts of pipe bombs for use as explosive devices.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing the component parts for improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Police discovered a hoard of petrol bombs and air rifles when they were called to investigate a public order offence from six days earlier at his home in Beaumont Road, Loughborough, in February last year.

Piggin, who has Asperger’s syndrome, denied he was going to attack his old school in a re-run of the Columbine massacre.


Bomb Squad Checks Suspicious Package at Wasilla VA Clinic

A suspicious package found near a back door prompted authorities to close the Wasilla Veteran Affairs clinic early Thursday morning.

A person arriving at the clinic for work just after 6:30 a.m. found a duffel bag with wires sticking out of it.

Alaska State Troopers were alerted. Troopers set up a perimeter out the building, which houses other offices, and kept business owners away. Bomb experts at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage were contacted.

Two Charged With Spartan Stadium Bomb Threat

Two people face felony charges after police say they made a bomb threat at Michigan State University.

Anthony Robert Shearer and Cynthia Marie Spade each face a one county of a false report of a bomb threat.

The threat at Spartan Stadium on Wednesday afternoon prompted police to evacuate some 200 people from the stadium and surrounding areas.

They cleared the area a couple of hours later without finding a bomb.

Meridian area pauses to remember on 11th anniversary of Lockheed-Martin workplace shooting

MERIDIAN, Mississippi — The week of July 7 marks the 11th anniversary of the July 8, 2003 workplace shooting at the Lockheed Martin plant in Meridian, where Douglas Williams shot 14 co-workers, killing six of them before committing suicide.

The workplace shooting at Lockheed is among the deadliest in the United States.
